Privacy Policy
How The Mass Pitch collects, uses and protects information, what player pages show, analytics and cookies, email choices, and how to delete your account.
Effective date: October 19, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information The Mass Pitch ("we" or "us") collects on themasspitch.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. Many of our users are teenagers, so we've tried to keep it short and plain. It works together with our Terms of Use.
The short version
- Public player pages show sports facts only. Contact details are never shown publicly.
- We collect only what we need to run accounts, profile claims, stat reporting, and emails you sign up for.
- We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising.
- You must be 13 or older to create an account or claim a profile. If you're 13 to 17, you need a parent's or guardian's permission.
- You can ask us to correct, limit, or delete your information at any time: editorial@themasspitch.com.
Information from public sources
Team, player, coach, and game pages are built from public sources: school and league schedules and results, published rosters, team and school posts, and scores reported by our community. This includes player names, teams, class years, positions, jersey numbers, games, goals and assists, honors, and college commitments. Some roster cards use player photos from public team or school posts, and we'll remove any photo on request. Coach pages can include a work email or phone number a school publishes, but we hide those from public view.
Information you give us
- Account sign-up: your email address and a password (stored securely by our login provider; we never see it in plain text). Some sign-up forms also ask for your name and role (player, parent, coach, or reporter).
- Age confirmation: when you sign up or claim a profile, we record that you checked the box confirming you're 13 or older and, if under 18, have a parent's or guardian's permission, along with the date and time and the wording you agreed to.
- Profile claims: the profile you're claiming, your email, the high school you play for (or that you don't play high school soccer), whether you want post-game emails, and, on some forms, a phone number. Coaches may also add a role, years of experience, alma mater, and a short bio.
- Profile details you choose to add: position, jersey number, hometown, grad year, club team, high school plans, college commitment, and a profile photo.
- Scores and stats you report: the game, the player credited, and the account and email that sent it, so we can review it.
- Newsletter: your email address.
- Contact form and emails to us: your name, email, and whatever you write.
Information collected automatically
You can block or clear cookies and local storage in your browser settings, or use an ad or tracker blocker. The site still works, though you'll need to sign in again.
- Analytics: we use PostHog and Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. They record pages viewed, time on page, clicks on links and buttons, page speed (web vitals), the referring site or search, device and browser type, and approximate location based on IP address. Visitors are not identified by name. Session recording (video-style replay of visits) is turned off.
- Hosting logs: our host, Vercel, keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser, page requested, time) for security and troubleshooting.
- Cookies and local storage: your browser stores a few small items: a login session if you sign in, analytics identifiers set by PostHog and Google Analytics, how you first arrived at the site (referring site, search term, landing page), and simple preferences such as dismissed tips or an in-progress claim. We don't use advertising cookies.
What's shown publicly
Public player pages show sports facts only: name, team, class year, position, jersey number, hometown, games and stats, honors, and college commitment. Email addresses and phone numbers are never shown publicly. A profile photo you add may appear on team roster cards. Social handles and bios you add are visible only to you and site admins. You can remove or replace your photo at any time, or ask us to. A claimed profile may show a "claimed" or "verified" badge.
How we use information
- to run the site, publish scores, stats, standings, and rankings, and keep pages accurate;
- to verify profile claims and protect accounts;
- to review submitted scores and stats;
- to send emails you asked for (account links, the weekly newsletter, post-game emails) and to answer your messages;
- to understand what's working on the site and fix problems;
- to prevent spam, fraud, and abuse.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising. We share it only with service providers that help us run the site, under their own privacy and security terms:
- Supabase: database and account login.
- Vercel: website hosting.
- Resend: sending and receiving email, including the newsletter list.
- PostHog and Google Analytics: site analytics.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or transfer of the site (the new owner would have to honor this policy).
Your email choices
When you create an account or claim a profile, you agree to receive emails from The Mass Pitch, such as the weekly newsletter and post-game emails. You can also sign up for the newsletter on its own. Every one of those emails includes an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time or email editorial@themasspitch.com to stop them. Account emails, such as sign-in links, are sent only when you need them.
Children and teens
- The site is not for children under 13 to sign up. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 created an account, claimed a profile, or sent us information, we'll delete it. Parents can tell us at any time.
- Teens 13 to 17 need a parent's or guardian's permission to create an account or claim a profile, and confirm that with a required checkbox.
- A player page built from public sources can exist without an account. A parent or guardian can ask us to correct, limit, or remove a child's page by emailing us.
Correcting or removing information
You (or your parent or guardian) can ask us to see, correct, limit, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to correct or remove a player page. Email editorial@themasspitch.com from the address on your account, or include the page link. We may need to confirm who you are. We'll respond within 30 days, and usually much sooner.
How to delete your account
Email editorial@themasspitch.com from the address on your account with the subject "Delete my account." We'll delete your account, release any profile you claimed, remove the profile details and photo you added, and remove you from our email lists. Scores and stats you reported may stay on game pages without your name or email attached, since they're part of the public record of a game. The public player page itself stays up unless you also ask us to limit or remove it.
How long we keep it
We keep account and claim information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, except for copies in routine backups, which are overwritten on a rolling basis, and anything we must keep by law. Unsubscribed email addresses are kept only on a do-not-email list so we honor your choice. Analytics data is kept in aggregate.
Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls on our database, and limit who can see personal information. No website is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and tell us right away if you think your account was misused.
Where information is stored
The Mass Pitch is based in Massachusetts and our service providers store data in the United States.
Changes to this policy
We'll update the effective date at the top when this policy changes, and for significant changes we'll post a notice on the site or email account holders.
