MIAA girls soccer league title races: Duxbury-Hingham, Wayland-Concord-Carlisle and more

Tuesday brings three head-to-head league title games, in the Patriot League, the Dual County League and the Cape Ann League, plus a Bay State Conference race that comes down to a tiebreaker. Here's what each game decides.

Mass Pitch Staff ·

Most league titles in Massachusetts girls soccer won't be decided on one night. But some of them will look very different by Tuesday night. On Oct. 20, the top two teams in the Patriot League meet at Duxbury, the Dual County League leader visits the second-place team, and two of the four contenders in the Cape Ann League play each other. The Bay State Conference race also has a twist: the two leaders are level on league points, and one of them has already beaten the other.

A note on the numbers: "League" means games against league opponents and "overall" means all regular-season games, as shown on our league standings pages through Saturday, Oct. 17. Points are 3 for a win and 1 for a tie. Each league sets its own title rules and tiebreakers, and we don't track every remaining game, so none of this is an official title projection. Power-ranking numbers are from the MIAA's official rankings released Oct. 16.

Patriot League: Hingham at Duxbury, Tuesday, 6 p.m.

Duxbury (No. 1, Division 2) is 11-0-2 in the league and 12-0-3 overall. Hingham (No. 4, Division 2) is 11-1-0 in the league and 13-1-1 overall. In league play, Duxbury has 35 points and Hingham has 33. A Hingham win would move Hingham in front. A tie or a Duxbury win keeps Duxbury ahead. See the preview page for the game.

The only league game Hingham has lost was against Duxbury, 3-1 at Hingham on Sept. 17. Duxbury scored three goals that day, and the Harborwomen have given up only two more all season: 55 goals scored and 5 allowed in 15 games. Duxbury's numbers are just as strong: 67 goals scored and 7 allowed, with no losses.

Who to watch: UConn commit Taylor Bello leads Hingham with 14 goals and 3 assists credited on The Mass Pitch. Maeve Maroney has 7 goals and Charlotte Mercer has 6 assists. For Duxbury, Lilah MacQuarrie has 6 goals and Marianna Stamboulis has 5. Our individual stats for Duxbury cover only part of its 67 goals.

Hingham hosted Norwell on Saturday and played to a 0-0 tie, a non-league game. → Patriot League girls soccer standings

Dual County League: Concord-Carlisle at Wayland, Tuesday, 4:30 p.m.

Concord-Carlisle (No. 3, Division 1) is the only team still perfect in Dual County League play, at 6-0-0 (10-2-0 overall). Wayland (No. 9, Division 2) is 5-1-1 (8-1-3), and Acton-Boxborough (No. 8, Division 1) is 4-1-2 (8-1-3). Our records show no earlier meeting between Concord-Carlisle and Wayland this season. Here's the game page.

Here's what the result means in the league standings. A Concord-Carlisle win would give it 21 league points to Wayland's 16. A Wayland win would make it Wayland 19, Concord-Carlisle 18. A tie would leave Concord-Carlisle two points ahead. Concord-Carlisle's week isn't over after Tuesday, either: it hosts Acton-Boxborough on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 4:30 p.m. Wayland beat Acton-Boxborough 2-1 on Oct. 6, but its only league loss came last Thursday, 2-1 at Lincoln-Sudbury.

Concord-Carlisle's two losses were both non-league games against league leaders: 6-1 at Medfield (Tri-Valley) and 1-0 to Winchester (Middlesex). It went into the week with a 1-0 win at Lexington on Saturday. Wayland played Grafton to a 0-0 tie on Saturday.

Who to watch: Duke commit Emmy O'Donnell has 9 goals and 2 assists for Concord-Carlisle. Sazie Wrentmore leads Wayland with 9 goals and 4 assists. → Dual County League girls soccer standings

Cape Ann League: four teams, one big game at North Reading

The Cape Ann League has the most crowded race in the state. Here are the top four in league play:

Lynnfield at North Reading, Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. (game page). Lynnfield won the first meeting 3-0 on Sept. 24. A North Reading win would pull it level with Lynnfield at 31 league points. A Lynnfield win would put Lynnfield six points clear of North Reading. Lynnfield split its two games with Newburyport (3-2 win on Sept. 8, 2-0 loss on Oct. 6) and tied Hamilton-Wenham 0-0.

The other two contenders are home. Newburyport hosts Essex North Shore at 4 p.m. (game page). Newburyport won 1-0 at Essex Tech on Sept. 24, and it has allowed just three goals in 12 games. Hamilton-Wenham hosts Ipswich at 6 p.m. (game page). Hamilton-Wenham won the first meeting 2-1. Its only league loss was 2-0 to Newburyport, and it plays North Reading on Oct. 27. → Cape Ann League girls soccer standings

Bay State Conference: Wellesley at Natick, with Needham in the mix

Needham (No. 5, Division 1) is first on our Bay State Conference standings page, at 7-1-1 in the league and 10-1-1 overall. Wellesley (No. 4, Division 1) is the only unbeaten team in league play, at 7-0-1 (9-1-2). The two are level at 22 league points, and Wellesley has played one fewer league game. Wellesley also won the head-to-head meeting, 3-0 on Sept. 17.

On Tuesday, both play at 4 p.m. Wellesley goes to Natick (No. 20, Division 1; 4-2-2 league), a team it beat 4-1 on Sept. 24 (game page). Needham hosts Walpole (1-6-1 league), a team it beat 3-1 on Sept. 29 (game page). Both leaders won on Saturday: Wellesley beat Winchester 2-0 and Needham beat Newton South 3-0. Wellesley has allowed six goals in 12 games. Needham still has a trip to Natick on Nov. 2.

Northeastern Conference: Masconomet and Beverly, Monday

Masconomet (No. 3, Division 2) leads the Northeastern Conference at 8-0-1 (10-1-2 overall), with 25 league points. Beverly (No. 10, Division 1) is 7-1-0 (9-1-1) with 22 points. Beverly's only league loss was 2-0 at home to Masconomet on Sept. 28. The rematch is Oct. 26 at Masconomet.

Both play on Monday at 4:30 p.m. Masconomet visits Swampscott, which is 6-2-2 in the league (game page). Beverly visits Saugus, which is 0-9-2 in the league (game page). Masconomet has allowed three goals all season. Its first loss came Saturday, 2-0 at Central Catholic, a non-league game.

Who to watch: Maryland commit Maggie Blosser has 6 goals for Masconomet and Ella Cammarata has 4. → Northeastern Conference girls soccer standings
